What is Pronation?

Pronation is a normal and complex movement within the joints of the feet, allowing the feet to come into contact with the ground during walking and running, in a gentle and controlled manner and to absorb the forces involved.

However, if the movement of pronation continues to occur within the foot for too long when the foot is in contact with the ground (known as excessive pronation), then this can lead to imbalance and overload within the joints and soft tissues of the foot, ankle, knee and potentially the lower back causing pain.

How do Pro-Nation Orthotics work?

Pro-Nation Orthotics are made of flexible, cushioning (polyurethane) foam and gel, shaped to closely fit the contours on the bottom of the foot. This allows the forces that arise from standing, walking and running to be correctly distributed throughout the foot and not to build up in any one particular area.

Pro-Nation Orthotics provide mild support to the joints around the heel and arch area (the sub-talar and mid-tarsal joints) with a semi-rigid plastic shell. This shell is flexible enough to allow these joints to move normally but also offers support, gently limiting excessive and potentially painful movements in the heel and arch area.

Pro-Nation Orthotics have a soft top cover to increase comfort and limit foot slippage.

How are Pro-Nation Orthotics used?

Pro-Nation Orthotics can be placed into the shoe and gradually worn for a few hours a day to start with until the feet are accustomed to the improved support. Pro-Nation Orthotics can be shortened if they do not fit the shoe exactly by cutting around the sizing line at the toe end of the Orthotics. To allow for a comfortable fit, if the shoes already contain an insole and this can be easily removed, then the insole should be replaced with the Pro-Nation Orthotics.

Who should seek advice before use?

Those people who suffer with diabetes, circulatory problems or have severe foot deformities should seek professional medical advice from their Podiatrist or Doctor before using Pro-Nation Orthotics.
